Sell Antique Furniture in 5 Minutes and 4 Easy Steps

Yes, that's right, the internet has made it easier than ever before to sell your unwanted antique furniture. It's quick, easy and anyone can do it and it's our job to show you how. We have compiled the following 4 step guide to selling antiques from years of experience in buying and selling antiques and you can pretty much gaurantee that if you follow our guidelines below, you won't get caught out or feel like you're in over your head when selling your antiques. We are also always available to contact if you want to speak to one of our specialists for advice.

How To Sell Antique Furniture:

Step One :-

Make sure you have somewhere to sell your antiques that will reach a massive audience. The internet is a great place for this as it can't be matched in terms of audience size. The best place on the internet to tap into this massive antique furniture market is eBay. It's easy to set up an account and you can do it by clicking here or on the image to the right. Just fill in a few details about yourself and you're halfway there.

Step Two :-

Find out the history of your antique to help get an idea of value. This doesn't have to be a lengthy process and most of the time, answers can be gained online in minutes from various websites that help identify what type of antique you have. Again, eBay offers an excellent guide-price comparison and all you have to do is search for similar items to see what they're selling for to get your "first opinion". We offer further guidance (a "second opinion", perhaps?) on identifying antique furniture and you should review our information page for more information.

Alternatively, if you prefer a more hands-on approach, you may want to consult our antique valuations directory to see if there are any antiques dealers near to where you live who specialise in the type of antique you want to sell. Dealers are always good for giving you valuation figures.

If all of that doesn't work for you or you want a quicker response, contact us at LJR Windwake & Sons and we'll tell you exactly where you can go to get some opinions on your antique if we can't offer guidance and valuations ourselves.

Step Three :-

Once you have established a range of valuations for your antique (at least 2 seperate valuations from some of the different sources mentioned above), you can consider advertising your antique for sale. Now, this is the fun part. You already have your eBay account set-up and aside from that, you don't really need much else but some things that you may want to use to help you advertise your antique in its best light are:

  • Photos of the Antique to be Sold
  • Photocopy/Scanned Image of the Valuation if Possible (Not neccessary)
  • Information About the Item of Antique Furniture for Descriptive Purposes
  • Information About the History of the Antique - Including where it had been for all these years!

You will be able to make full use of all of these articles on eBay or in your local Ad Trader or other sales medium and they will all make the item seem more desirable to your buyer.

Step Four:-

Once you have your new ebay user ID ready, you can simply log into your ebay account by clicking here and then go to the 'sell' tab at the top right of your screen.

When you click on this button, you will be taken to a screen that gives you two options to sell.
1) Quick Sell
2) Advanced Sell

Quick sell is better for new users as it gives you less things to get confused over but it does not give you as many options as the advanced sell, such as having the ability to set a reserve price auction or the ability to add extra subtitles to your listing which you may well want - especially if you have good history about the item. For example:
Title: 18th Century Oak Antique Writing Desk
Subtitle: Recently bought from the English Manor of the Earl of Gray Tea

As you can see, a subtitle can sometimes add that extra bit of information to your listing that just might convince more potential users to have a look at your auction.
